Review highlights
Based on 641 reviewsEl Taco De Oro in Ottawa is widely appreciated for its authentic Mexican cuisine, with particular praise for its flavorful tacos, enchiladas, and unique salsas. Customers frequently highlight the fresh ingredients and well-executed dishes such as cochinita pibil and mole pizza. Service is consistently described as friendly and attentive, often adding a personal touch that enhances the dining experience. The restaurant’s casual atmosphere and carefully crafted drink options, including distinctive lagers, complement the food well. Some feedback points to minor inconsistencies in taco toppings and a desire for later closing hours to better enjoy the patio, but overall, El Taco De Oro is recognized as a standout spot for Mexican food in the area.
Super friendly service. The guac is fresh and the spice they use in it makes it very unique compared to other places. Tacos are amazing and the tostadas are my favourite. Waitress saw that I loved hot sauces and brought out a special mango salsa for me. This place has very good salsas! The Hibiscus lager is also very unique and should not be ignored! Pairs well with the spicy fruity salsas! This place is a must try!
What a nice surprise this place is! The best Mexican food I’ve had in Ottawa. The waiter was nice and attentive. The plates were served hot. The fried elements were perfectly done, crispy with no dripping oil. The BBQ beef was tender, the eggs cooked just like I would at home. Everything tasted absolutely delicious. It's a shame they close so early, considering they have a lovely patio and also serve drinks. My only complaint is that the Mexican coke could be colder . I will definitely come back. Thank you
Great spot! My friend and I had passed by many times, so was great to finally have the opportunity to pop in for lunch. Casual vibes, great service. I got the torta and loved it— cochinita pibil was delish, and enjoyed the garlicky bread— and it was big enough to bring half home. My friend is a vegetarian, and got the veggie tacos— they were okay, but pretty light on sustenance— definitely get the rice and bean side if you order them. Not a ton of veg options, but still good overall! Will definitely be back!
My friends and I’s favourite mexican restaurant, really good food and tastes pretty authentic. Best ones are the enchiladas (verdes and suizas), the chilaquiles and the tacos (al pastor, barbacoa and tinga) and the mole pizza is really good too!
The server was amazing! She's young and friends of the owners daughter. Such a great server! Thank you. The food was delicious but my one complaint is, there is nothing on the chicken tacos except some sprigs of cilantro, no sauces or salsa or crema etc. So I asked for some and it made the tacos way better! The server knew it was my birthday and brought us out the most delicious moist cake with real whip cream. Very thoughtful.
Fantastic place to eat Mexican food in the downtown Ottawa core! This is a regular spot for me. The food is delicious, hearty and authentic. The atmosphere and music are excellent, You could see yourself in Mexico. Service is attentive and fast highly recommend this authentic hidden gem!
Had a really great time here as the food was delicious and the interior was well decorated. We ordered nachos, chicken tacos, and fish tacos. If I could, I’d have ordered more but this was very filling for 2 people. The nacho tortilla chips had a good flavour to them and so did the cheese (mentioning this because a lot of times I find the nachos to be pretty bland and under seasoned). The chicken tacos were delicious and juicy. The fish tacos were great too!! They’re open on Tuesdays now and have a special: build your own taco for 3.50 so definitely go with friends, or by yourself and enjoy some very affordable and delicious food! The service was really friendly and fun as well. Food was ready in a good amount of time, no long wait. Definitely recommend if you’re trying to find a new Mexican restaurant or just want to try mexican food for the first time! Added on my list of places to revisit, so pay them a visit :) Update: Went back again and had the beef tacos and Chimichangas. Both were delicious!!
Second time here, Tuesday taco is around 3dollars per each. The pork with pineapple was best taco for me. their sandwich and fries were good too. Try mango margarita. it was my favorite!
